What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is one of the many nutrients that the body needs to stay healthy. It is produced by the body naturally when the skin is exposed to the sun, but it can also be found naturally in certain foods, such as fish, eggs and dairy products.

Along with calcium, vitamin D helps to form bones and maintain their health. Vitamin D has a role in the assimilation of calcium and phosphorus in the small intestine, as well as in their fixation in bones and teeth, resulting in correct bone mineralization. In addition, it blocks the release of parathyroid hormone, which reabsorbs bone tissue, leading to thinning and weakening of bones, which increases the risk of fractures.
