Cinnamon is the brown bark of the cinnamon tree, available dry, in tubular or powder form. The two varieties of cinnamon, from China or Ceylon (Sri Lanka), have a similar flavor, but Ceylon is slightly sweeter, more refined, and more difficult to find on the local market.

Cinnamon significantly reduces blood lipid levels, especially in people with type 2 diabetes. In a study, participants were given 1.3 to 6 grams of cinnamon per day for 40 days. Among the 60 volunteers, triglycerides were reduced by 23 to 30%, and bad cholesterol by 7-27%. Total cholesterol was reduced by 12-26 percent.

In a study published in the journal “Biochemistry”, the ability of cinnamon to regulate blood sugar levels was tested, concluding that the active substance contained in the spice has two direct effects on glucose. Este coaja maro al arborelui de scortisoara, fiind disponibila uscata, sub forma tubulara sau pulbere. Cele doua soiuri de scortisoara, din China sau Ceylon (Sri Lanka) au un gust similar, dar cea din ceylon este usor mai dulce, mai rafinata si mai dificil de gasit pe piata locala.

Scortisoara reduce semnificativ nivelul de lipide din sange, mai ales in cazul persoanelor cu diabet de tip 2. In cadrul unui studiu, participantilor le-au fost administrate 1,3 pana la 6 grame de scortisoara pe zi, timp de 40 de zile.
