What is Espumisan and what is it used for?

Espumisan L belongs to a class of drugs called “gastrointestinal drugs.” Active substance simethicone disintegrated gas bubbles accumulated in the stomach and intestines. Gases released from this process can then be eliminated naturally.

Mix the bottle before usage.
Using the dropper:

25 drops (1 ml oral emulsion) containing 40 mg of simethicone.

The usual dose:

To treat symptoms of disorders caused by gas in the stomach or intestines, for example, accumulation of gas (flatulence) or flatulence and feeling full:

Infants

25 drops (equivalent to 1 ml) each bottle before or after each feed

Children from 1 – 6 years

25 drops (equivalent to 1 ml)

3 – 5 times per day

Children 6 – 14 years

25-50 drops (equivalent to 1-2 ml)

3 – 5 times per day

Adults and adolescents over 14 years

50 drops (equivalent to 2 ml)

3 – 5 times per day

Note: Espumisan L can be administrated after surgical interventions. Can be taken during meals and before sleeping if necessary. Can be taken as long term treatment if symptoms persist, with the recommendation of your GP.

In preparation for diagnostic examinations of the stomach and intestines, for example, radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy:

Radiography, ultrasound: In the morning of the examination

2 ml 3 times per day

(The equivalent of 50 drops each time)

2 ml (equivalent to 50 drops)

Adjutant as a suspension (used for diagnostic examination of the stomach and intestines):

4-8 ml to 1 litre of contrast for imaging with double-contrast

In preparation for endoscopic examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract (endoscopy):

Before endoscopy, 4-8 ml

If necessary, take a few millilitres of the emulsion through the instrument channel of the endoscope during the examination in order to eliminate bubbles which interfere with the examination.

As foaming after poisoning with detergents (surfactants):

Depending on the severity of intoxication:

Children – 10 ml

(Equivalent to 65 drops of the vial contents to 1/3)

Adults – 20 ml

(Equivalent to 1/3 to 2/3 of the vial contents)

Note: If you take Espumisan L as a measure of first aid after detergent being swallowed, you should see your doctor immediately!

If you think the effect of Espumisan L is too intense or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more Espumisan L than you should:

No adverse effects are anticipated overdoses. Even large amounts of Espumisan L tolerated with ease.

The active substance of Espumisan L, simethicone, a foam that disintegrates in the stomach and intestines through a purely physical process. Simethicone is not absorbed into the blood.

If you forget to take Espumisan L:

You can take the missed dose at any time.

If you stop taking Espumisan L

Symptoms may appear again after the shutdown of Espumisan L.

Espumisan with other medicine:

There is no known interaction with this medicine.

Pregnancy and nursing mothers

Ask your GP or pharmacist before using Espumisan. There are not anticipated negative effects if simethicone is not absorbed by the stomach. No special cautions for driving vehicles are required.

There are no reported side effects for using Espumisan L. If you feel any side effects, report them to your GP.
