Vitex agnus castus, popularly called Chastity Fruit, Monks’ Pepper, Lamb, has its origin in the Mediterranean countries and in central Asia. It is a 2-4 m tall shrub that blooms in the middle of summer and after pollination gives birth to fruits with a variety of colors, from dark red to black.

An aphrodisiac effect was found in women and anaphrodisiac in men, hence the name “Monk’s pepper”, being used by them to calm sexual instincts.
